Against Modern Football: The Game Belongs to U

Football did not become the world’s game because of broadcasters, betting companies, private-equity funds or marketing departments.

It became the world’s game because people cared.

Supporters built the atmosphere. Communities built the clubs. Generations passed their colours, stories and rivalries down through families.

Now too many of those supporters are being priced out, ignored or treated as customers by institutions their families helped build.

That is what Against Modern Football stands against.

## We Are Not Against Progress

Football can modernise without selling its soul.

Better stadiums are progress.

Safer grounds are progress.

Women’s football, accessibility, technology and opportunities for young players are progress.

Turning historic clubs into financial instruments is not.

Moving matches for television without considering travelling supporters is not.

Charging working people more because their loyalty is guaranteed is not.

Replacing atmosphere with hospitality packages is not.

Football should move forward—but supporters should be carried with it, not left outside the gates.

## What We Stand For

Against Modern Football supports:

* Affordable ticket prices at every level
* Meaningful supporter ownership and representation
* Safe standing for supporters who want it
* Stronger protection for historic clubs, grounds, colours and identities
* Fair access for young and working-class supporters
* Proper consultation before decisions affecting a club’s future
* Football clubs serving their communities—not exploiting them

We support the principles championed by Supporters Direct and continued by the Football Supporters’ Association: better ownership, stronger governance and a meaningful voice for the people who turn clubs into institutions.

## More Than Nostalgia

This is not about pretending everything was better in the past.

It wasn’t.

Grounds were less safe. Facilities were worse. Players had fewer protections. Many supporters were excluded from the game altogether.

But football possessed something increasingly difficult to find today.

Belonging.

A club represented a place. A shirt represented a community. Supporters were participants in the story—not demographic data on a commercial presentation.

The answer is not to drag football backwards.

It is to take the best of its past with us.

## Football Before Content

Modern football is increasingly designed for people watching through screens.

Fixtures become content.

Players become assets.

Supporters become consumers.

History becomes merchandise.

But football is not a television programme with a crowd added for atmosphere.

The crowd is the point.

Against Modern Football gives disaffected supporters somewhere to question the direction of the game, discuss genuine alternatives and defend the things worth keeping.

We will not agree on everything.

Football supporters never do.

But we can agree on this:

Clubs should remember who they belong to.

Ticket prices should not punish loyalty.

History should not be erased for convenience.

And football should remain a game people can attend, influence and pass on.

Against Modern Football is not resistance to change.

It is resistance to surrender.

**Football can be modern without becoming soulless.**
